idk if anyone else has talked about this but a trans man wheelchair user, andrew blake-newton was shot with a pellet gun in a drive-by hate crime & called a “tranny faggot.” the injuries worsened his disability. i don’t know if there’s any ways to donate to him to help but i wanna make sure people hear about this. the link has a video of him & his husband talking about the hate crime.

This happened not far from where I live. Pontiac is in Oakland county, one of the more progressive counties in the state. It’s not far from Ferndale, the town with the highest concentration of queer people in the state. Pontiac is a bit lower on the socio-economic scale than some of the surrounding areas, and is often characterized by more wealthy white people as being “dangerous” (probably because there’s poor people and POC having the audacity to visibly live their lives), but I’ve never felt in danger being there.

So the more I think about this, the more scared I get. If it is happening here, are any of us safe? If it happened in Pontiac, what’s to stop it from happening in Ferndale, where there are many more visible queer and trans people. What’s to prevent this from escalating into further violence against us. I want to exist as a visible trans person, but how do I do that if I’m putting myself and the people around me in danger?

Just saw a Barbie ad here for the first time. It is starting, folks. They must already be desperate if they’re buying ad space on TUMBLR.

Do not reblog official marketing or ads from struck works

including (but not remotely limited to) Barbie. They are advertising here because their actors are on strike and will not promote their products.

Barbie is not a struck work. It is okay to reblog barbie content. It’s done and finished. Going to premiers for it is crossing the line. But going to the regular ass movie is not.

Read me and read me good: not seeing Barbie is a great way to show execs that we don’t care about writers and actors.

Let me say that again: going to see Barbie is GOOD for the strike. Many people who WORKED on barbie are striking. They probably have not been paid yet.

The unions HAVE NOT asked us to picket the movie. Just the premier.

The original post is disinformation.

I believe it to be coming from a good place but avoiding works that are NOT being struck is genuinely harmful to the cause.

Also, the Barbie movie has been advertised on tumblr for a while now…waaaaay before the SAG-AFTRA strike was even being talked about (at least publicly). Idk if I was seeing official ads for it or if it was fan content before the writers’ strike started too…

Also: actors and writers are on strike and cannot do official promotional material. Marketing and promotional professionals are not on strike and can continue to do their jobs as normal, except they cannot set up interviews/con appearances/etc for the people who are on strike. People who watch movies are not employed by the studios unless y'all have made some kind of deal no one told me about, and therefore are also not on strike and therefore cannot cross the picket line.

will never forget when i worked in a fast food joint. some customer wrote like “86 cherries” on their mobile order, as like a pretentious way of say no cherries, but the store was run by a bunch of high schoolers who are working their first job so they collectively went “why the fuck does this guy want 86 fucking cherries” and like piled them onto his milkshake

so when i made this i didn’t expect ANY notes so i feel like an asshole now for not explaining. so incase you check the notes, 86 in restaurant terms means “unavailable or out of stock” but has kinda morphed into “omit” or “leave out”. but none of us had worked in a restaurant before, also why would you not just say “no cherries” it’s the same amount of characters to type

Man ordering food: I work in the restaurant business ;)

Children working at restaurant: this guy must really like cherries. Got something in your eye there sir

FYI if your employer does this, if they have done it for a long time especially, you and your coworkers could be owed huge amounts of unpaid wages and it would be an easy suit if there is a paper trail like this and your employer is placing strict requirements on your behavior while not at work. Employment lawyers generally work on contingency. Just food for thought.
